With winter in full swing, I find myself gravitating toward cozy knits and warm layers. While not always the most trendy, these tried and true items are certainly some of my most worn pieces and essential in any winter wardrobe. Keep reading to see 5 of my favorite staple sweaters (several of which are on sale!) and how I style them.
1. Classic Crew-Neck
You can’t beat a classic crew cut sweater–they’re sophisticated, timeless and can easily be dressed up or down.
I snagged this lovely Merino Wool one from Club Monaco for only $50 (now on sale for $25!) and have been wearing it with jeans and my favorite black booties for an effortless look.
2. Slouchy V-Neck
After trying this sweater on in the store, I must admit I pulled a major mom move and bought it in two colors.
The soft fabric and slouchy fit make it perfect for everyday wear, in fact, I’m wearing it right now. It’s machine washable, doesn’t pill and when I purchased it, it was 40% so only $25–does it get much better than that?
3. Long Cardigan
In addition to all of my sweaters, it’s nice to have a cardigan to slip on top for those extra chilly days. My favorite way to pair it is over a thin turtleneck as shown in the photos at the start of this video.
I love this oatmeal colored one from Gap because it’s incredibly soft and the sleeves are nice and roomy, making it perfect for layering.
4. Thin Mock Turtleneck
Speaking of layering, my next essential is a lightweight mock turtleneck top. The one I’m wearing isn’t available anymore, but this top from Everland is a similar style and weight and would go perfectly under a cardigan, or another turtleneck if it’s really cold where you live.
I suggest stocking up on several in basic colors like white, black and grey.
5. Cozy Rollneck
The last sweater essential is a cozy rollneck for those extra chilly days.
I love the knit detail on the sleeves and boxy structure of this piece, not to mention the beautiful lilac color. I recommend investing a bit more in this type of piece to ensure you’re getting a quality piece that won’t be itchy.
